Learning how to navigate difficult conversations is essential to maintaining trust\, strengthening partnerships\, and ensuring the team remains focused on supporting survivors. \nThis Connection Call will explore strategies for addressing conflict\, navigating challenging discussions\, and creating a culture where team members feel empowered to share concerns\, ask questions\, and work through differences respectfully. Participants will examine how communication patterns\, power dynamics\, and unspoken challenges can impact team functioning and explore tools for moving from conflict avoidance toward meaningful dialogue. Through reflection\, discussion\, and shared experiences\, participants will identify ways to approach difficult conversations with curiosity\, accountability\, and a commitment to improving the multidisciplinary response.

DESCRIPTION:See the directors’ listserv for registration information. \n  \nLet’s Talk COLAs. \nAs we prepare for another year of supporting our teams and providing services to victims/survivors\, a familiar question resurfaces. How do we make sure that staff wages are keeping up with rising costs even when our grant funding isn’t? We know that staff recruitment and retention are critical components of organizational health\, but it can feel nearly impossible to offer the competitive pay necessary to compensate the staff we have and attract new talent in our field. This becomes even more challenging when the cost of housing\, gas\, food\, and other basic needs are skyrocketing. \nJoin us for our October Program Director’s call to discuss how cost of living adjustments are being managed within our field and share knowledge about creative ways to build these costs into our budgets. We know that there isn’t a magic solution to this problem. The goal of this conversation is to work together to identify opportunities to show our teams that we recognize the stress they’re feeling at a time when every dollar counts.

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 MNSART All Teams Meeting will bring together multidisciplinary professionals from across Minnesota to explore the power of collaboration in creating survivor-centered\, trauma-informed responses. Participants will hear from keynote speaker Danielle Leukam\, who will share her lived experience as a survivor and advocate\, offering insight into how systems can move beyond awareness toward meaningful action and compassionate support for survivors. The meeting will also feature a panel of experienced SART Coordinators discussing successful collaboration strategies\, lessons learned\, and the impact strong multidisciplinary partnerships can have on survivor outcomes. Additionally\, Boyd Billman and Jarvis Paro will share perspectives on trauma-informed law enforcement response and the role of policing in strengthening trust\, coordination\, and effective partnerships across agencies. Together\, these sessions will highlight how collaborative\, trauma-informed approaches can improve outcomes for victims/survivors\, strengthen community responses\, and build more effective relationships among partner agencies. \nWith time for networking and connections we are looking forward to having you this year!

Join fellow advocates for a facilitated discussion about moving beyond handing someone a name and phone number. We’ll explore how to learn about community partners\, explain what we know about their services\, and offer a warm handoff when the victim/survivor wants one. \n  \nWe’ll focus on what the process feels like for the person receiving the referral. How will they get there? What can they expect when they call or arrive? Is the service a good fit for them\, including immigrant and trans survivors? If you are not a member and would like to become a member\, learn more here.***\n  \nMNCASA’s 40-Hour Sexual Assault Advocacy Training includes online training modules and live\, online training. If you have questions regarding registration or logistics\, please contact Megan McKinnon at megan@mncasa.org. If you have questions regarding content or attendance\, please contact Ashley Sturz-Griffith at asturz@mncasa.org. \n  \nThe pre-work and online training modules must be completed before you will to be able to register to participate in the live\, virtual training. \n  \nRequirements for Registration \n  \n\nThe 40 Hour Training can be a great screening tool for new employees\, however MNCASA relies on Partner Programs using their own screening process to appropriately select attendees for the 40-Hour Sexual Assault Advocacy Training. MNCASA’s 40 hour training should not be used as a screening tool for new staff. While the MNCASA’s 40 hour training is not designed to be a screening tool\, MNCASA facilitators retain the right to provide feedback on a participant’s readiness to become an advocate. Furthermore\, MNCASA has the right to ask someone to leave the training or not receive their certificate of attendance.\nTrainees must complete all of the Homework and Online Content prior to attending the training. If this work is not completed\, they cannot attend the training.\nAttendees must be punctual and attend all training events. If attendees miss any part of the training\, they will not receive a certificate of completion from MNCASA.\nThis is an interactive training.
