Partner Hosted Training: Regions Hospital Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Skills Lab (Regions Hospital)
Prerequisite requirement for this course is completion of a 40-hour SANE Training within the previous 5 years.
This 16-hour Adult/Adolescent Clinical Skills Lab will provide Registered Nurses with the hands-on training needed to support their role as SANE. Our lab utilizes live models to assist learners in development of new skills like speculum insertion, history-taking, forensic photography, evidence collection and trauma-informed communication. Nurses will receive training and practice with developing a plan of care, discharge/safety planning, and risk assessment for STI’s, pregnancy, and HIV with discussions regarding options for prophylaxis of each. This skills lab is also designed to provide clinical practice to nurses who are employed as SANEs in areas with low exam volumes and desire to maintain proficiency in exam components. The skills lab will increase the nurse’s skill and confidence with performing medical forensic examination of the adult and adolescent sexual assault patient.
This activity has been submitted for approval by the Emergency Nurses Association to award 16 contact hours. The Emergency Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
